A Traffic-Aware Fair MAC Protocol for Layered Data Collection Oriented Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks

چکیده
Underwater acoustic channels are characterized by long propagation delay, limited available bandwidth and high energy costs. These unique characteristics bring challenges to design media access control (MAC) protocol for underwater sensor networks (UASNs). Especially in data-collection-oriented UASNs, data generated at nodes transmitted hop-by-hop the sink node. The traffic loads undertaken of different depths different. However, most existing MAC protocols do not consider load imbalance resulting unfairness how transmit their own data. In this paper, we propose a novel traffic-aware fair layered called TF-MAC. TF-MAC accesses medium assigning time slots lengths each layer via achieve fairness nodes. To improve throughput avoid collision network, an overlapping slot division mechanism layers multi-channel allocation scheme within single is employed. Considering time-varying nodes, adaptive packet length algorithm proposed taking advantage spatial-temporal uncertainty channels. A sea experiment was conducted prove which provides feasibility basis algorithm. Simulation results show that can greatly network performance terms throughput, consumption, UASNs.

A MACA-based MAC protocol for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks
The medium access control (MAC) protocol design of underwater acoustic sensor networks (UWASNs) faces many challenges: the power limitation at nodes, long propagation delay, low data rates, etc. These challenges of underwater acoustic channels result in the unsuitable usage of terrestrial networks MAC protocol in UWASNs. Moreover, the long propagation delay causes a serious problem for the MAC ...

Due to the characteristics of underwater acoustic channel, media access control (MAC) protocols designed for underwater acoustic sensor networks (UWASNs) are quite different from those for terrestrial wireless sensor networks. Moreover, in a sink-oriented network with event information generation in a sensor field and message forwarding to the sink hop-by-hop, the sensors near the sink have to ...
متن کاملFair data collection in wireless sensor networks: analysis and protocol
In general, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of many sensors which transmit data to a central node, called the sink, possibly over multiple hops. This many-to-one data routing paradigm leads to nonuniform traffic distribution for the different sensors (e.g., nodes closer to the sink transfer more traffic than those farther away). In this paper, we perform an analysis of the fairness issu...
متن کاملA Reliable and Efficient MAC Protocol for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks
Underwater acoustic sensor networks (UWASNs) are playing a key role in ocean applications. Unfortunately, the efficiency of UWASNs is inferior to that of the terrestrial sensor networks (TWSNs). The main reasons are follows: (1) UWASNs suffer long propagation delay; (2) UWASNs are limited by the narrow bandwidth. Many MAC protocols are proposed to improve the efficiency of UWASNs. However, thei...
متن کاملA Survey on Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks: Perspectives on Protocol Design for Signaling, MAC and Routing
Underwater acoustic sensor networks (UASNs) are often used for environmental and industrial sensing in undersea/ocean space, therefore, these networks are also named underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs). Underwater sensor networks are different from other sensor networks due to the acoustic channel used in their physical layer, thus we should discuss about the specific features of these ...
